Kamala Harris hosts fiery rally in Philadelphia, debuts running mate Tim Walz

Updated: Oct 15

Tim Walz speaks before an audience of more than 10,000 people for the first time as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.

Vice President Kamala Harris made her first public appearance with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, in a crowd-packed arena in Philadelphia yesterday.

“He’s the kind of person who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big,” Harris said to a crowd of more than 10,000 people.

Harris and Walz proved they are joining the ticket with a sense of urgency and are not afraid to call out Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance.

Vice President Kamala Harris debuts Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate in Philadelphia on Aug. 6.

“I took on perpetrators of all kinds: predators who abused women, fraudsters who scammed consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain,” Harris said. “So, hear me when I say I know Donald Trump’s type.”

Walz attacked Trump’s record and loudly announced “These guys are creepy and just weird as hell.”

“Violent crime was up under Donald Trump. That’s not even counting the crimes he committed,” Walz said.

Harris introduced Walz by a myriad of titles — husband, father, teacher, coach, veteran, congressman and governor — and emphasized her hope that he adds Vice President to the list in November.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro spoke before Harris and Walz took to the stage and declared his support for their presidential ticket. Shapiro was widely reported as one of the top contenders for Harris’ running mate pick and met with the Vice President at her home in Washington, D.C. just days before.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced his full support for a Harris-Walz presidential ticket, hoping to help keep Pennsylvania blue in November.

Shapiro referred to Walz as “a great patriot” and declared his full support for a Harris-Walz ticket. He received similar support with Walz referring to him as a “treasure.”

“Josh is a dear dear friend and an extraordinary leader,” Harris said. “Together with Josh Shapiro, we will win Pennsylvania.”

Harris and Walz took Temple University’s The Liacouras Centerstage in the first of a six-rally roster over five days. They will make stops in Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada before the end of the week.

"Thank you for bringing back the joy," Walz said to Harris as he took the microphone at the Vice President's rally in Philadelphia.
